Low vision is a term used to describe visual impairment that cannot be improved by traditional means e.g., glasses, contact lenses, or surgery.

There are many causes for these conditions, such as macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma, inherited/genetic diseases, or other acquired conditions.

Low vision evaluations entail a more in-depth evaluation than is performed during a comprehensive eye examination. A key element in these types of evaluations involves prescribing specific devices that allow the patient to utilize the remaining portions of their vision and improve daily functioning.

In the modern era, many of these devices are digital in nature and can increase ease in maintaining independence.
